How the free check works

Your child does 20 questions
On a phone or laptop, with a 20-minute timer, in English like the real test.

You see the score by skill
Critical thinking, logic and problem solving are scored separately, so you know what to practise.

You read the answers in your language
Every question has a worked answer in English and in Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean or Thai.
What the real OC test looks like
The NSW Opportunity Class Placement Test is done on a computer in Year 4. Numbers below follow recent years. Always check the current details on the NSW Department of Education website.
| Section | Questions | Time | What it checks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reading | 14 | 40 min | Understanding texts, finding evidence |
| Mathematical Reasoning | 35 | 40 min | Using maths to solve problems |
| Thinking Skills | 30 | 30 min | Critical thinking, logic, problem solving. This is what we practise. |
Made for parents who think in another language
Thinking Skills questions turn on small English words: must, most likely, only, weakens. Reading the worked answer in your own language makes it much easier to explain to your child.
